| Name: | DP Yellowdog | |||||||||
| Bio: | Name: DP (Dougal Peregrin) Yellowdog PB: Jake Gyllenhaal Age: 28 DOB: 1 May, 1980 Appearance: White male, well tanned, brown hair, blue-hazel eyes. Very fit (physically), and mellow, easy to smile. Has a crooked smile, smiling more on the right than the left. Every motion is smooth, quiet and deliberate, even when its fast... but usually its not particularly fast, either. Personality: Cheerful, dry humour that isn't often understood, very animal oriented, extraordinarily loyal once he trusts. Can be rather black and white in opinion, especially when he feels particularly strongly about something and can be overly logical about it. Generally keeps his head, very level headed and rather laid back -- when he does panic, he panics in a practical manner. Treats his dogs almost better than he treats people and trusts them more. Willing to help anyone who asks... but isn't stupid about it. Most of the time. Generally pretty quiet over all. History: His mother (who was a native Scot) attended Texas A&M to study the latest in animal husbandry (and to get away from her family and America looked like a good place to go), and met his father there. His father was a half-Cherokee (half American 'mutt') hereditary rancher from Oklahoma, also attending A&M to learn 'wild life ranching' techniques in an effort to make the family ranch more eco-friendly and profitable. They married, settled in Oklahoma. He was born in Oklahoma City, raised on a cattle-and-bison ranch there until age 16. His father died in an automobile accident with a drunk driver when DP was about 12, and after trying to make it on her own, his mother moved back to her family on the border of Scotland bringing DP with her. Missing his home on the ranch, he got involved in the local 'ranching' scene, this time with sheep. Hooked up with a mentor who had a dog he recognized (an ACD [Australian Cattle Dog]), and ended up being given a puppy when the bitch whelped. Raised and trained the pup himself, got into breeding (peripherally) by maintaining a stud dog for his mentor, and working the mentor's various dogs in herding trials. Became enamoured of the trials, enjoying both the competition and the camaraderie found there, and began devoting all of his spare time and effort to the endeavour. Earned championship status and local recognition with his dog by the time he was 20. His first dog sired several litters for his mentor and other breeders around the country. When he was 24, as a reward for winning a particularly prestigious herding trial, his mentor gave him a breeding to the bitch of his choice. He selected a lovely red female he'd admired and soon pups were on the way. Unfortunately, his stud dog was rolled by a cow during a trial before the pups were born, and broke his neck -- the litter he'd been gifted with was the dog's last. DP was DEVASTATED. Three days later, to the hour, the bitch dropped her pups -- two red females and one plain-faced blue male that looked exactly like his sire. DP took the male for his own, naming him 'Snap' and the bond between them is unrivaled. Picked up Search and Rescue work with the new pup, mostly as a way to learn the skills he needed to spend more time with the sheep -- got free lessons if he volunteered with the local rescue group. Not particularly well off, DP went to university briefly and erratically as he was able to earn the money to pay for the classes, but hadn't finished the degree he was aiming for in Animal Behaviour, before the infection came. Earned his living as a shepherd, for the most part, and thus spend a very large amount of his time in the field with his dogs and the sheep -- this is how he missed being infected. Skills: Reads a lot, reads FAST. Semi-photographic memory, which lends itself to picking up trivia rapidly and retaining it well. VERY good dog trainer. Excellent shepherd. Good at camping, good at animal husbandry. Good with basic survival skills -- very resourceful and creative -- and handles bad weather well (since when is SAR called out on a nice day?). Very level-headed, for the most part. Disadvantages: Do. Not. Fuck. With. The. Dog. No, SERIOUSLY. Highly dependent on his dog. Also, afraid of snakes, spiders, and angry women. | |||||||||
